Sound Exchange
I couldn’t believe it when the Sound Exchange on the Drag was converted into a Baja Fresh a couple years back. I suddenly felt a huge disconnect between myself and the kids currently attending UT. At least? the new owner, after some serious public outcry, opted to keep the Daniel Johnston mural on the side of the building. That thing was easily one of my favorite Austin icons, long before I even knew who Johnston was.
And now Baja Fresh has closed down, leaving a weird, no doubt highly expensive shell of a building on the Drag. Until some other bullshit, yuppie-in-training establishment takes over, the spot is a great location for street art.
